Five Questions with
a Camp Simcha Hero

Nathan is a 17 year old high school student living in Los Angeles, CA.  On December 5, 2008, He was diagnosed with leukemia and within hours was greeted by Elisa, a case manager for Chai Lifeline.

Nathan is very bright (currently 5th in his class of more than 500) and enjoys theatre.  In fact, it was his experience as a guest speaker at the New York City Chai Lifeline dinner in December 2009 that encouraged him to join the Academy of Visual and Performing Arts. While his 20 year old brother is enrolled at Cal State, Nathan's dream is to attend Columbia University and with his SATs now out of the way, he’s one step closer.

TL: What do you love About Camp Simcha?

NP:The energy, the people, the food, the excitement; everything and everyone that made that place so special.

TL: What do you miss most about Camp Simcha?
NP: All of the great staff and campers I met - especially the environment. I felt like I could be myself. I was no longer different than everyone else.

TL: Craziest Thing I Ever Saw at Camp Simcha:
NP: Shaving Cream Car Wash or when the staff greeted us as we came off the bus

TL: Is there anything unexpected you’ve experienced from your Camp Simcha experience?
NP: Making such strong connections with so many people and being able to take the energy I absorbed in camp back home with me.

TL: Do you maintain relationships with anyone from Camp Simcha?  If so who and how often do you stay in touch?
NP: I maintain relationships with a lot of people from camp including my counselor and a lot of my camper friends. I wish I could stay in touch more often, but I just have a lot going on at home.
