Steven Hoffman, a 45 year old venture capitalist and father of four girls, is the type of person who truly believes in the adage that “It’s better to give than to get”.
In fact, it was this philosophy that motivated Steven to run with Team Lifeline, and as a true roll-model and father figure, his three daughters Zara, Eden and Ruthie, ages 17, 15 and 13, respectively, joined their Dad, as runners, at the 2008 Las Vegas Half-Marathon.  When Steven looks back at the Las Vegas marathon, finishing hand-in-hand with his daughters, he considers it one his most memorable highlights as a parent.
Steven’s Las Vegas experience was so exhilarating that he decided to lace up again and run with Team Lifeline at the 2009 NYC Marathon.  Today, Steven is already working on his video entry for this year’s video contest and is planning to run the 26.2 miles through all five New York City Boroughs with Team Lifeline in November.
Early this week we had an opportunity to better understand what drives Steven’s commitment to Team Lifeline and Chai Lifeline.  The following are highlights from our conversation:

TL: How did you hear about Team Lifeline?
SH: I’ve actually known about this organization for years but when a neighbor’s daughter developed cancer, the importance of Team Lifeline really hit home. It was at that point when I realized just how much this organization helps not just the patient but the entire family.

TL: What was your motivation when joining Team Lifeline?
SH: What Chai Lifeline does for the family is amazing. I wanted to ensure that as many kids and families could experience this gift.

TL: Favorite place to train?
SH: I don’t get there as often as I’d like, but Central Park is fantastic.

TL: Is there anything unexpected you've experienced from Team Lifeline?
SH: The weekend experience in Las Vegas blew us a way...being with the other runners all sharing the same commitment to Chai Lifeline and Camp Simcha was a high.

TL: What do you consider the most rewarding aspect of Team Lifeline?
SH: What some people may not consider is that it’s the entire family, not just the kid, who benefit. When children are sick, an entire family is in need. Knowing that the money raised will help families cope with one of life’s most challenging experiences is unbelievably gratifying.
