Why we're doing this:

Sandy has been trying to get me to exercise for months and I never really had the impetus. When I read about Team Lifeline, I found my impetus! Sandy couldn't say no. After all, there simply is no other organization like Chai Lifeline which offers us the opportunity to provide children suffering from cancer and other life threatening illnesses the ability to experience the joy of overnight summer camp. Sandy and I will gladly invest the miles to bring them the smiles. So, while I don't think it will be easy, with your support and by keeping our eyes on the smiles, I'm confident that we can do it. Please, join us by donating today, thanks. David

Periodic Updates Below

POST-RACE UPDATE!!! We did it!! Sandy and I both finished the Half-Marathon. Details to come but just wanted to get a quick thank you out to everyone who supported us and contributed to this amazing cause.

January 21, UPDATE Tomorrow night we leave for (hopefully) sunny Florida. The weather here in New York has been particularly brutal and outside running has been severely limited. We are both excited and a bit nervous about the race but, deep down, I think we'll do fine. Thanks to everyone for their support of Chai Lifeline. I will update when we return from Miami.

January 12 UPDATE Well, almost there. The race is less than two weeks away and we're just about ready. OK, maybe not, but we WILL do this! The Jewish Planet had a little article about Sandy and me and our participation with Team Lifeline, you can see a copy here. We are quickly approaching our fund raising of January 18th, so if you are waiting for the last minute, it's here!

January 4th UPDATE Three weeks from the race and training is revving up. We've just returned from an 11 mile run, ouch! On the bright side, no cars were stolen and we didn't get lost. Sandy was a trooper. She really wasn't feeling well at about the 4-5 mile point but she pushed through and we finished. Next week we peak in our training at 12 miles but we hope that we haven't peaked in our fund raising since we are still short of our goal. If you haven't already done so, please help us support this phenomenal cause by contributing now, thanks.

December 29, 2008 UPDATE Training is getting back on course, more or less. After missing our long run last week and with Channukah and our daughter's broken leg, it hasn't been easy. Yesterday, we decided to take a new route for our long run. Well, I botched the route and we ended up going in the opposite direction from where I had intended. We finally more or less straightened it out, after stumbling through some forest trail or something. When we finally got back to the car, it was gone!! I called our good friends the Greenwalds to pick us up and, of course, they did. On the way back home, we suddenly spot our car. We had stopped one block short and had been expecting to see our car there. So, now I say we got a new car! We're slowly moving toward our fund raising goal but need your help. If you haven't already contributed, please take a moment to support this great cause. As an incentive, I will pick a contributor at random and take them for a spin in my new car.

December 22, 2008 Yesterday, the weather threw our training for a loop. It was way to slippery to run outside, with all of the ice, snow and slush. We will try to find sometime during this hectic week to run the 9 miles we were scheduled for yesterday. It is now channukah and we are relying on miracles to get us through our training. We invite you to help make miracles for the children of Chai Lifeline by sponsoring our efforts. Thanks.

December 7th Update Sandy and I have eclipsed the half-way point in our training. This past Sunday, we ran 7 miles (the race is 13.1 miles). Boy, was it freezing but we pushed eachother through the wind and pain and we did it. Our fund raising goal is $6000.00 and, as you can see, we haven’t even hit $3000.00 yet. Please help us to help raise funds for Camp Simcha by clicking on donate. Every donation helps, thanks.

November 20 UPDATE We have been increasing our mileage weekly and so far so go. I traveled a bit this week and was proud of myself that I shlepped along my running gear and ran my four miles in New Orleans (thanks Ron!). Running four miles in 60 degree weather in New Orleans was much easier than running only two miles in the close to freezing temps here in New York on Tuesday evening. Maybe I need to travel more and to take Sandy with me! If you haven't already contributed, please take a moment to do so. The process is very quick and the cause is a great one. Thanks, David.

November 6 UPDATE It's been a while since we updated, oy is Yom Tov not good for a running schedule. Well, we're trying to get back on track and have entered the training phase where mileage increases weekly. We're pushing ourselves and thank you all for pushing yourselves for this phenomenal cause. If you haven't already donated, please do so, every dollar counts. Tizku L'mitzvos.

September 3, 2008 UPDATE Training continues to progress but the hectic nature of the late summer-new school year period has taken a toll on our consistency. We continue to forge ahead though and are still on track with our training schedule. I think this video goes a long way to showing what Camp Simcha and Camp Simcha Special are all about, so click the link and then come back and click the DONATE button. :)

August 26, 2008 UPDATE Training is moving along well and it really is a benefit to be doing this together, we push each other and support each other. Fund raising is moving along pretty well too. We came up with a novel fund raising idea that has allowed my kids to raise nearly $300.00 in one day. Details are here. Last time I checked, the DONATE button above was still working but maybe you want to test it just to make sure :)

August 15, 2008 UPDATE Training is moving s-l-o-w-l-y but that is the way to go for us. Wednesday was a day off and we went for a walk on the Atlantic Beach boardwalk. That wasn't related to training, just something we like to do with the kids in the Summer. Thursday was also a day off and felt good!! This morning was a mile or so walking and light jogging. Sandy is definitely better at this than I am. It definitely helps that it's been so cool out lately. I am NOT looking forward to running in the winter. By the way, the "DONATE" button above is still working :)

August 13, 2008 UPDATE Our formal scheduled training program begins Sunday but, with the coach's advice, we decided to get an early start on some aerobic activity. So, last night we did a very light walk/jog walk/jog for two miles. I had a pretty bad stomachache beforehand but decided to do it anyway. I figured there are always going to be times when there will be difficulties; pain, minor injury, exhaustion, illness, etc. and I will need to push through them so I might as well get used to pushing through now. If Sandy and I weren't doing this together, I don't think I would have left the house! Sandy likes to do the treadmill with an iPod so we each took one last night. Music really gets you going. I think I will need to upload some faster paced music for training and/or the race. Last night, a few Eighth Day songs were pretty good, especially the instrumental on the "Brooklyn" album. I just picked up a new album with some pretty upbeat songs so I will upload that as well. Contributions are trickling in but we have a lot of off-line pledges as well. Won't you join us (insert puppy dog eyes here) by clicking on the "DONATE" button above. Take care - David
