Once again this year, I am dedicating my New York City Marathon training to supporting Chai Lifeline, an amazing organization dedicated to helping very sick children and their families. I ask you to join me in this mission.
Chai Lifeline provides year–round emotional, social, and financial support to more than 5,800 children and their families every year. Chai Lifeline´s programs and activities change their lives forever, providing a source of joy and hope and enabling them to live full and happy lives despite the presence of illness. Its most famous program is the incredibly moving and intense summer camp, Camp Simcha, and its sister camp, Camp Simcha Special. Every year these two camps offer nearly 500 kids a chance to experience the fun of summer, in a safe and supportive environment -- to forget about illness and just be kids again. The videos below give a great glimpse of what makes Chai Lifeline so special. I encourage you to watch them.
In past years, I've written to you about our close family friend and his own - their own - struggle. This year I learned something new: Camp Simcha opens its doors to eligible children for five years after diagnosis, even if they are otherwise "doing fine." In this way, Chai Lifeline recognizes that healing is not just about medical treatment; it is a long-term, community-based, process. I'm proud to support an organization that so deeply and wisely participates in caring for children and families. Please join me.
Warm regards, and thanks in advance,
