10 years running

James Nahon

This is my 10th straight year year running the Miami half marathon to raise funds and awareness for Chai Lifeline, an incredible group that helps raise the spirits of children with critical illness. In my tenth year, please help me reach my goal of $10,000 or $1000 per year.

I am the longest standing member of Team Canada and I'm schvitzing and my knees are hurting! Each year I have tried to complete the half marathon in under 2 hours. My closest time was 2 hours and 10 minutes last year and back in 2011. Year 10 will be my year to finally beat the 2 hour mark. Please challenge me with a donation bonus if I achieve this 2 hour lifelong goal to help push me to fight through to the finish line.

Each year at the event we have met the children of Chai Lifeline who suffer from critical and sometimes terminal illness. We have met and hugged and cried with their families. Some we see year after year and they have become like family to us. Some children have healed over the years and have returned to run with us. Often the families of these children run with us or cheer us on from the sidelines. It is a heart wrenching experience. But I think we return year after year, because we witness the power of love to stare down these horrible illnesses and the incredible strength of simcha as the ultimate cure. But most of all, we have the great honour together with our donors year after year to participate in this army of good guys, Chai Lifeline, in this cruel war to fight illness with love.

Chai Lifeline is a wonderful organization that provides year–round emotional, social, and financial support to more than 4,500 children and their families every year. Chai Lifeline´s programs and activities change their lives forever, returning joy and hope and enabling them to live full and happy lives despite the presence of illness. Its most famous program is Camp Simcha and its sister camp, Camp Simcha Special. Every year these two camps offer 450 kids a chance to forget about illness and just be kids again. To get a better idea of what Chai Lifeline does for families, please watch the videos below. I know they will touch your heart the way they touched mine.

Training is not easy, but neither is dealing with illness. If the children of Chai Lifeline can fight each day, if they can push themselves to go through hospital stays and treatments, I can do this for them. But I can't do this without your support. I need your help to raise as much money as possible for these kids. So please, push the donate button and help me put smiles on the faces of sick children. Let's do this together! Let's make dreams come true.
