In January of 2017, I ran the Miami Half Marathon, as my nephew Ilan lay at home suffering from the effects of the chemotherapy treatments for his brain tumor. He was pale, weak, and emaciated. He was tube fed, couldn’t walk, and was extremely depressed. All he wanted was to be a kid again – Chai Lifeline and Camp Simcha gave him that chance. This year, on January 28, 2018 I will be running 13.1 miles with TEAM ILAN as we push him in the Miami Half Marathon and cheer him along as he WALKS across the finish line!!!

As many of you know, I have spent the past 17 summers as a nurse in Camp Simcha, and countless weekends, trips, and visits to the hospital with these special children during the year. Chai Lifeline is an amazing organization, that words alone cannot adequately describe. They provide year-round emotional, social, and financial support for more than 3,000 children with illness, and their families. It is an organization that I can truly say I am honored and privileged to be a part of. It is a family, to which I have welcomed my own.

Over the past year and a half I have had the opportunity to experience first-hand the benefits that Chai Lifeline provides to a child and family in crisis. From the simplest things, like providing “Shabbos-in-a-box” or nightly dinners, as we spent countless days in the hospital with Ilan, to the biggest thing, like giving Ilan the chance to go to summer camp and be a kid again. Camp Simcha gave him the opportunity to meet other children going through similar experiences, develop strong friendships with counselors and campers who understood his needs, and do things that I never imagined he would do – like going down the zip line! In camp, Ilan began to walk and eat again, and most importantly, be happy!! The smiles on his face, as he laughed and danced through his 2 weeks in Camp Simcha, provided him so much support to continue to grow stronger. While, Ilan has Thank G-d, completed treatment for his cancer, his journey to a complete recovery still continues – but he now has his friends at Chai Lifeline by his side.

Please help me to make life better for children like Ilan. Please help me to raise over $3600. LAST YEAR I WAS FORTUNATE TO RAISE ALMOST $20,000 ON BEHALF OF CHAI LIFELINE. Your donations are 100% tax-deductible, and the smiles it will put on the faces of our camper’s will be 100% worth every penny.

Thank you in advance,
Bracha Goldress Hirsch
