Dara Roth Edney

You may have heard that I’m training to run in the Lifetime Miami Marathon this January. And if you know me, you know I have not - up to this point in my life - been a marathon runner! So this will be one of the biggest physical & mental challenges I've ever faced. But in truth, it does not come close to the challenges faced and overcome by children and families living with really significant and scary illnesses. So while the challenge to run this is mine, I am not running for me. I am running to raise money for Chai Lifeline, an incredible organization dedicated to helping very sick children and their families.

Chai Lifeline is an incredible organization that provides year–round emotional, social, and financial support to more than 4,500 children and their families every year. Chai Lifeline´s programs and activities change their lives forever, returning joy and hope and enabling them to live full and happy lives despite the presence of illness. Its most famous program is Camp Simcha and its sister camp, Camp Simcha Special. Every year these two camps offer 450 kids a chance to forget about illness and just be kids again. To get a better idea of what Chai Lifeline does for families, please watch the videos below. I know they will touch your heart the way they touched mine.

Personally, I can tell you that this organization has literally been a lifeline to one of my closest childhood friends as she and her family have faced the biggest challenge anyone can face, their daughter Jess' brain tumour diagnosis. Jess is the bravest and most inspirational person I know and being with her and her family over the last few years and seeing first-hand the ways in which Chai Lifeline has helped them and other families, touched me deeply and moved me to - well, to move off my couch and help in any way I could! But I can’t do this alone. I need your help.

Training is not easy, but neither is dealing with illness. If Jess and all the other children of Chai Lifeline can fight each day, if they can push themselves to go through hospital stays and treatments, I can do this for her and for all of them. And in fact, I plan to run this with Jess's mom by my side, on her 50th birthday!

But I can't do this without your support. I need your help to raise as much money as possible for these kids. So please, click the donate button and help me put smiles on the faces of sick children. Let's do this together! Let's make dreams come true.
