In January 2009, I ran my first half marathon with Team Lifeline, alone. I ran for my Chai Lifeline "little brother's" little sister, Peri, who was born with a rare form of muscular dystrophy. That summer, after 6.5 years of being part of their family, I had the privilege of being Peri's counselor in Camp Simcha Special. That place is truly what the welcoming sign there says: "Like no other place in the world." Though her medical history is complicated, including being trached and on a ventilator 24/7 since the age of 2.5, to define her based on her illness would go against the philosophy of Camp Simcha and do Peri a great injustice. She is a daughter, a sister, a friend. She is a dancer, a writer, an artist. She is a top student and a dreamer. And there's no stopping her.

In January 2019, I hope to join Team Lifeline for my fifth time. My "little brother" is already post college and is working. His little sister Peri, is completing her first semester of college. This time, I will not do it alone. Peri's family has been doing it for years now too. In 2017, wheelchair-bound Peri, walked the last 1,000+ steps, and crossed the finish line. In 2018, Peri walked 1.5 miles. She doesn't just dream. She lives her dreams. She makes them happen.

Please support me in my goal to raise $10,000, as part of Team Peri, as part of Team Lifeline, and help make dreams come true for all the children of Chai Lifeline.

Thank You,
Diane Braid

Chai Lifeline provides year–round emotional, social, and financial support to more than 4,500 children and their families every year. Chai Lifeline's programs and activities change their lives forever, returning joy and hope and enabling them to live full and happy lives despite the presence of illness. Its most famous program is Camp Simcha and its sister camp, Camp Simcha Special. Every year these two camps offer 450 kids a chance to forget about illness and just be kids again. To get a better idea of what Chai Lifeline does for families, please watch the videos below. I know they will touch your heart the way they touched mine.
