Leora Crandall

This coming January, I plan on running the Miami half marathon in honor of , and with one of my best friends, Peri Finkelstein.
Who is peri Finkelstein? In brief, I had the honor and privilege to be Peris counselor for two years in Camp Simcha Special. Peri has a form of Muscular Dystrophy and has very little use of her muscles along with breathing through a ventilator.
Amazingly, that doesn't stop her from doing anything. We met in Israel on Chai lifeline’s Hartman family foundation Wish at the Wall trip. Seeing Peri at the Kotel for the first time is a moment I will never ever forget. Peri wouldn’t allow her physical limitations to stop her from seeing Israel to its fullest.
If she puts her mind to it, she will get it done.
I learned and continue to learn so much from Peri. She is a true inspiration. She taught me to count my blessings. I am blessed that my body works how it should. I can breathe on my own, walk on my own, cough on my own, sit up on my own.The things I take for granted on a daily basis are things that Peri can not do without assistance. Peri taught me to push myself. When I am going through a challenge, I reflect on Peri’s situation. That’s inspires me not to give up. If she can do it, then so can I.
Peri is caring, kind, sensitive and grateful. So I want to publicly thank Peri for changing me as a human being.

Because without you, I would be a different person.
The truth is that what gives Peri the strength to persevere is that she knows that Chai Lifeline has her back.

I watch first hand as my Father (Rabbi Shlomo Crandall, Regional Director of Chai Lifeline Midwest) puts his heart and soul into all Chai Lifelines children and teens.

My message is a simple one : Thank you Chai Lifeline for changing Peri’s life, my life and thousands of childrens lives for the better. And thank you Peri and Chai Lifeline for teaching me to give, Because giving is the most rewarding feeling a person can ever experience. Thank you for joining me in this endeavor and for your generosity.
