A year ago, I stated that I was neither a runner nor a fundraiser. With your help I ran a half marathon, and together we raised over $3,600 for the kids of Chai Lifeline.
Before the race last year, I had the opportunity to meet and hear from kids and adults involved in Chai Lifeline, and it gave me a much better sense of what we helped accomplish. I anticipated people asking if I was going to do it again. Instead, so many of you asked me when I would, not if.
And here is the answer: On November 17, I plan to run the Rock n Roll Las Vegas half-marathon again, as part of Chai Lifeline’s Team Lifeline.
Last year I learned that together we could achieve goals that I really thought were unattainable. So this year, I am again setting big goals. Bigger goals. And with your help, we will reach them and once again make a big difference for the kids of Chai Lifeline.
Last year I ran the half-marathon in 3 hours and 3 minutes. This year, I aim to run it in under 2 hours.
Last year we raised over $3,600. This year, my goal is $5,000.
As you may know, I have a younger brother that I never really had the chance to know well. Daniel died of Neuroblastoma at only 15 months old. I was only 4 at the time, and my memories from then mostly revolve around spending lots of time in daycare or by friends, while my parents were tending to Daniel. At that time, Chai Lifeline (chailifeline.org) did not exist to provide emotional, social and financial support for sick children and their families. Seeing the work ChaiLifeline does, it aches that my family didn't get the chance to experience the true magic, kindness, and support that this organization offers. I'd like to do my part to make sure that every family who unfortunately needs the support of this organization can get it to the fullest, which is why I plan to run for Team Lifeline in memory of my brother Daniel.
And this is where I need your help.
I need your assistance in raising $5,000 by race day. Your contributions are tax deductible, can be made either on-line at teamlifeline.org/vegas/benprero or by sending me a check made out to Chai Lifeline (3506 Labyrinth Rd., Baltimore, MD 21215) – and are greatly appreciated.
Help me cross the finish line and help one of the most remarkable organizations do work to which there really is no comparison. There is nothing like bringing a smile to a sick child, or peace of mind to their family.
Together, we can again accomplish something really special.
Wish me luck!
