Ever since I chose to pursue a career in nursing I was overwhelmed with the amount of charities and Chesed that were involved in the care of patients with illness. Ironically the first year I signed up for the chai lifeline marathon I just thought about the perks of the weekend and I did not truly understand what the organization is all about. Then my father was diagnosed with cancer and passed away shortly thereafter; and I saw just a glimpse of what chai lifeline is all about.
This past February, I started working as a pediatric RN at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and I witnessed firsthand what these children with illness go through. Vicious cycles of chemotherapy, radiation, and treatments causing them to have debilitating side effects whether they have extreme nausea and vomiting, pain, feelings of depression and sadness, chai lifeline is always there to save the day. They bring volunteers, games, prizes, entertainment, meals, treats and so much more. The reactions on these children’s faces are priceless.
This will be my fifth time running and I couldn’t do it without your help. I’m running this marathon in memory of those who were taken from us too soon and as a refuah shelamah for those going through this unfortunate illness! Camp simcha/camp simcha special is right around the corner and in order for them to provide the summer of a lifetime and make these kids just forget about their illness, their pain, their suffering they need your help. They’re counting on you and I’m counting on you! Any donation no matter how big or small makes a big difference!
Training is not easy, but neither is dealing with illness. If the children of Chai Lifeline can fight each day, if they can push themselves to go through hospital stays and treatments, I can do this for them. But I can't do this without your support. I need your help to raise as much money as possible for these kids. So please, push the donate button and help me put smiles on the faces of sick children. Let's do this together! Let's make dreams come true.
