Last summer I met my mini bestie Michelle at Camp Simcha. A few descriptors I would use to describe her are: Energetic, Spunky, Strong, Oreo and Pickle obsessed, Artistic, Creative, and my true Soul Sister.

Although we only spent 4 days together in the special camp weekend session, those 4 days began our life changing friendship. Even though she was going through such a hard time Michelle allowed me into her life introducing me to her family and friends, inviting me over to hang out, allowing me to visit her in the hospital and even do an overnight with her. We truly had something special going! She was a vibrant kid who didn’t let anything get in her way. We made some incredible memories together daily FaceTimes, dancing, talking, and of course making tik-toks. She truly taught me what it meant to live life even when she was going through such a hard time.

Unfortunately, Michelle lost her battle to cancer this summer. Although life will never be the same without my mini bestie, I feel lucky to have built such an incredible relationship with her. She will always be a true warrior in mind with everything she taught me. This January, I will be running in the Miami Marathon/Half-Marathon as part of Team Lifeline, and more importantly Team Michelle (Zecher Nishmas Michal Tal Bat Yisroel) to benefit other kids like Michelle who are battling cancer, disabilities, and other serious medical conditions.

Although I do not love running (I prefer biking - lets go Tour De Simcha!) I plan to cross this finish line with Team Michelle and I know she will be cheering me on from above!

Every dollar I raise and every mile I run will benefit Chai Lifeline, an international children’s health support network that provides critical year-round programs and services to nearly 6,000 families confronting pediatric illness.

While running all those miles will be challenging, I am excited to help raise awareness and funds for such an important and worthy cause and for such an important person in my life.
