This January, I will once again be participating in the Miami Half Marathon with Team Lifeline to raise money for Chai Lifeline and the incredible children and families they support.

This will be my 12th year participating, and after all these years, this cause means as much to me as ever.

Chai Lifeline is there for children and families facing cancer and other serious illnesses, providing critical support throughout the year. And one of the programs closest to my heart is Camp Simcha — a place where children who spend far too much of their lives dealing with doctors, hospitals, treatments and illness get the chance to leave all of that behind and simply be kids.

This year's marathon will be a little different for me personally.

Over the summer, I underwent foot surgery, followed by weeks of being unable to put weight on my foot and a long road back to walking normally, let alone training for a half marathon. Getting myself ready for January will definitely be more challenging than in previous years.

But there's also some perspective that comes with that.

Whatever discomfort, frustration or challenge I've experienced from surgery and recovery is temporary — and it doesn't begin to compare to what the children of Chai Lifeline endure. If anything, this experience has made me even more determined to get back out there.

They are the reason I keep doing this.

Over the past 11 years, with the incredible generosity of family, friends and supporters, we've raised well over $100,000 for Chai Lifeline. Every year, I am humbled that people continue to step up and help me support this extraordinary organization.
